The Work:
Maintain and enhance a suite of Power BI dashboards used by clients to monitor contractor performance and support compliance oversight. The dashboard environment consists of approximately 180 report views built on a foundation of Azure SQL views and DAX measures. Responsibilities include:
- Investigating and resolving production incidents affecting Power BI dashboards, including diagnosing issues across the full data stack — from Azure SQL source views through data model relationships and DAX calculations to visual-layer rendering.
- Implementing minor enhancements to existing dashboards, including adding or modifying visuals, revising filters and slicers, and updating calculated measures and KPIs.
- Writing and maintaining Azure SQL views that support the data layer underlying the dashboards, including troubleshooting query performance and ensuring data accuracy.
- Authoring and refactoring DAX measures and calculated columns to support new or revised reporting requirements.
- Collaborating with business analysts and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into dashboard and data model changes.
- Performing unit and integration testing of changes prior to deployment to validate that data, calculations, and visuals produce expected results.
- Documenting data model changes, SQL view logic, and DAX measures to support ongoing maintainability.
The role is located in Austin, TX and will require on-site 3 days per week.
Here’s what you need:
- At least one year of experience building reports and dashboards in Power BI, including writing formulas to calculate and analyze data (called DAX)
- At least one year of experience writing complex SQL, including skills like multi-table joins, subqueries, and aggregations to pull, combine, and analyze large datasets from databases
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 12 years) work experience. (If Associate Degree, must have minimum 6 years work experience)
Bonus Points if:
- Familiarity with Medicaid data — both how it's structured technically and what it means from a business perspective
- Experience working on software or data projects using Agile or Waterfall project management methods
