The Head of Health, Safety, and Security leads the development and execution of a scalable, enterprise-wide program that protects people, assets, and operations across a multi-site 3PL and fulfillment network.This role owns occupational safety, physical security, incident response, and regulatory compliance, integrating these disciplines into daily operations, peak execution periods, automation launches, and network expansions. The Head of HSS establishes standards, empowers operators, and drives accountability to ensure safety and security are core operational practices—not just compliance requirements.
What You'll Do:
Program Ownership & Governance
Lead the enterprise-wide Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) program across all facilities.
Establish governance structures, escalation paths, and decision rights.
Chair a cross-functional Safety and Security Steering Committee.
Define minimum standards, acceptable risk thresholds, and non-negotiables.
Occupational Health & Safety
Design and maintain a safety management system aligned with OSHA and ISO 45001 principles.

Own policies and standards for:
Material handling equipment and PIT programs
Automation and conveyance safety
Lockout/tagout procedures
Ergonomics and injury prevention
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
Contractor and temporary labor safety
Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Ensure timely and accurate OSHA reporting and regulatory compliance.
Physical Security & Asset Protection

Establish facility security standards, including:
Access control and visitor management
CCTV coverage, placement, and retention
Yard and perimeter security
Protection of high-value inventory
Lead security risk assessments and loss prevention initiatives.
Partner with Legal and HR on workplace violence prevention and response.
Support customer and industry standards (e.g., TAPA, CTPAT, SOC) where applicable.
Incident Response & Crisis Management
Develop and maintain incident response playbooks for injuries, property damage, theft, active threats, and severe weather.
Serve as senior leader during significant incidents, coordinating with emergency responders, insurers, and internal stakeholders.
Drive post-incident reviews and corrective actions.
Regulatory Compliance, Hazmat & Certifications
Oversee compliance with Hazmat regulations (DOT, OSHA, EPA, and state-specific rules).
Develop standards and training for Hazmat handling, storage, labeling, spill response, and reporting.
Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Facilities to integrate Hazmat requirements into facility design and automation.
Lead readiness and ongoing compliance for customer and industry certifications (e.g., GMP, GDP).
Coordinate audits, corrective actions, and external inspections.
Serve as the primary escalation point for Hazmat incidents, regulatory inquiries, and certification nonconformances.
Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Own HSS KPIs and dashboards, including TRIR, DART, lost time, near-miss rates, and security incidents.
Focus on leading indicators and proactive risk identification.
Partner with Ops Excellence and Industrial Engineering to reduce systemic risk.
Ensure sites remain audit-ready at all times.
Training, Culture & Capability Building
Develop scalable safety and security training programs for leaders, associates, and contractors.
Build and support site-level safety champions embedded in operations.
Promote a speak-up, no-retaliation culture for HSS concerns.
Integrate safety and security expectations into leadership routines and standard work.
Network Growth, Peak & Automation Support
Support new site launches, peak planning, and major operational changes.
Partner with Network Innovation and Engineering to review automation designs, approve safety controls, and ensure go-live readiness.
Scale safety and security standards with volume, labor, and automation.
Basic Qualifications:
10+ years in safety, security, or operations leadership.
Multi-site experience in 3PL, eCommerce fulfillment, parcel, logistics, or manufacturing.
Proven ability to operate in high-volume, labor-intensive settings with automation.
Technical Expertise
Deep knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance.
Experience implementing or operating within ISO 45001 or equivalent frameworks.
Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
Familiarity with physical security systems and loss prevention practices.
Experience managing contractor safety, temporary labor, and peak operations.
Credentials (Preferred)
CSP, ASP, or equivalent safety certification.
Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement background.
Experience supporting TAPA, CTPAT, or SOC-related controls a plus.
