About the Director of Transportation Position:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to fill the role of Director of Transportation, focusing on freight management across various modes including full truck load (FTL), less-than-truckload (LTL), drayage, and ocean transportation. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing our transportation operations, ensuring efficient and cost-effective movement of goods throughout the supply chain.
What you’ll do:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive transportation strategy aligning with organizational goals and objectives.
- Provide strategic direction for the optimization of freight operations, balancing cost-effectiveness with service excellence.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing transportation team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate transportation activities seamlessly into overall supply chain operations.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with carriers, negotiating contracts, rates, and service level agreements.
- Evaluate and select carriers based on performance metrics, ensuring a reliable and efficient transportation network.
- Implement cost-effective transportation solutions while maintaining high service standards.
- Analyze transportation spend, identify cost-saving opportunities, and drive initiatives to improve overall efficiency.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve transportation processes.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations and standards.
- Mitigate transportation-related risks by implementing robust safety and security protocols.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and monitor the performance of transportation operations.
- Generate regular reports, analyzing trends and identifying areas for improvement.
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in a leadership role within transportation and logistics, with a focus on freight management across FTL, LTL, drayage, and ocean.
- Strong negotiation skills and a track record of successful carrier relationship management.
- In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations, compliance, and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to implement and optimize transportation management systems (TMS).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities.
