About the Director of Transportation Position:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to fill the role of Director of Transportation, focusing on freight management across various modes including full truck load (FTL), less-than-truckload (LTL), drayage, and ocean transportation. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing our transportation operations, ensuring efficient and cost-effective movement of goods throughout the supply chain.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive transportation strategy aligning with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Provide strategic direction for the optimization of freight operations, balancing cost-effectiveness with service excellence.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing transportation team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate transportation activities seamlessly into overall supply chain operations.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with carriers, negotiating contracts, rates, and service level agreements.
  • Evaluate and select carriers based on performance metrics, ensuring a reliable and efficient transportation network.
  • Implement cost-effective transportation solutions while maintaining high service standards.
  • Analyze transportation spend, identify cost-saving opportunities, and drive initiatives to improve overall efficiency.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve transportation processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations and standards.
  • Mitigate transportation-related risks by implementing robust safety and security protocols.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and monitor the performance of transportation operations.
  • Generate regular reports, analyzing trends and identifying areas for improvement.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within transportation and logistics, with a focus on freight management across FTL, LTL, drayage, and ocean.
  • Strong negotiation skills and a track record of successful carrier relationship management.
  • In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations, compliance, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and optimize transportation management systems (TMS).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and leadership abilities.
