About the Role:
We’re looking for a strategic and hands-on Head of Finance to lead all financial and administrative operations at Onwards HR. This role will oversee payroll, benefits, finance, bookkeeping, tax compliance, customer contracts, invoicing, financial forecasting, investor relations, and general business administration. You’ll be our in-house expert on financial operations and a key partner to the CEO in driving operational excellence and supporting sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance & Accounting
- Own financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting processes
- Build and maintain detailed financial models and forecasts to support strategic decision-making
- Manage bookkeeping and general ledger reconciliation
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Oversee cash flow, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
- Manage customer invoicing and ensure timely, accurate billing
- Support customer contract processing, tracking, and compliance
- Prepare financial materials for board meetings and investor updates
- Partner with the CEO to support investor relations, fundraising, and due diligence efforts
Payroll, Benefits & People Ops
- Manage payroll processing and ensure accurate/timely payments
- Oversee benefits administration and recommend improvements to plans
- Ensure compliance with relevant labor laws and compensation regulations
Tax & Compliance
- Manage tax filings and coordinate with external accountants or tax advisors
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements
- Support audits and legal/financial due diligence processes
Business Operations
- Maintain corporate records and oversee insurance, vendor contracts, and business registrations
- Manage tools and platforms related to finance and HR administration (e.g., Gusto, QuickBooks, Carta)
- Implement and maintain internal controls and policies to support scale
What We're Looking For:
- 5+ years of experience in finance or accounting, ideally in a startup or high-growth SaaS environment
- Strong experience with financial forecasting, budgeting, and modeling
- Experience managing invoicing and supporting customer contracts
- Understanding of investor relations and fundraising processes
- Strong understanding of GAAP and tax compliance
- Experience overseeing payroll, benefits, and HR compliance
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of juggling multiple priorities
- Comfortable rolling up sleeves and working cross-functionally
- CPA or equivalent experience preferred, but not required
