About NLX
NLX is a startup building a conversational AI technology platform that will be part of a suite of technologies that will change the way the world does business and represents the crest of another wave of innovation akin to the advent of HTML, Web 2.0, the social web, and mobile computing. We are a remote-first team headquartered in NYC with team members across North America and Europe. We value excellence, authenticity, transparency, attention to detail, and collaboration.
We are building a team where people are comfortable iterating, asking for help, and showing what they tried when things don’t go as planned. At NLX, we embrace the unfamiliar, innovate relentlessly, and avoid getting stuck in the details. Our culture rewards cooperation over competition, and we foster transparency and community.
NLX seeks a Business Development Representative (BDR) to play an essential role in driving our sales pipeline. This person will need to be relentlessly curious, resourceful, and resilient, learning fast, iterating, and persevering when ignored. They will research, read, learn, and continuously find new paths to engage the right decision-makers and pass qualified leads to our Account Executives.
Company Values
- Elevate the Customer. We are customer-centric in the way we conduct our business and the way we build our product. Our goal is to elevate the customer experience of our customers as well as theirs. We should be obsessed with what the customer needs so that we can quickly build for them.
- Choose simplicity. Things tend to get over-complicated. Take the time to step back and see the simpler solution.
- Be Brave. If a decision needs to be made, make it. Ask questions, make mistakes, try something different. If you are curious about something, take the time to dig into it. If you have something you want to say, say it.
- Keep it Open. Transparency is key and open communication is a great way to be transparent.
- Build an Inclusive Space. We can do more when we do it together. Make each other feel welcome. Make yourself approachable. We expect diverse experiences and value individual input. We give each other the space to be included.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Business Demand Representative (BDR), you are the engine of our sales team and the first voice our future customers will hear. You're a hunter, a strategist, and a relationship-builder, all rolled into one. Your mission is to identify and create new, qualified sales opportunities in target accounts. You'll be at the forefront of our market expansion, mastering the art of outreach, and building the foundational pipeline that fuels our revenue growth.
This could be your launchpad for a lucrative career in tech sales, and we provide a direct path for high-performers to grow into an Account Executive role.
- Become a Master Prospector: Dive deep into our target markets to identify and research key companies and contacts who need the power of NLX.
- Craft Compelling Outreach: Use a mix of phone calls, personalized emails, and social media (like LinkedIn) to cut through the noise and capture the attention of decision-makers.
- Qualify with Precision: Engage with potential customers to understand their business challenges and goals, qualifying their potential to become a successful NLX partner.
- Bridge the Gap to Sales: Seamlessly schedule and confirm introductory discovery meetings for our Account Executives, setting them up for success.
- Crush Your Goals: Exceed your monthly and quarterly targets for qualified opportunities, fueling your competitive drive and earning uncapped commissions.
- Be a Strategic Partner: Collaborate closely with the Sales and Marketing teams to share market insights, refine messaging, and optimize our go-to-market strategy.
- Maintain Impeccable Records: Diligently track all your prospecting activities and lead data in our CRM, ensuring a clean and actionable pipeline.
Required Qualifications:
We’re looking for a hungry, self-starting individual who embodies the entrepreneurial spirit. You don't wait for instructions; you take initiative.
Core Skill Set:
- Exceptional Communicator: You can articulate a value proposition clearly and concisely, both in writing and over the phone.
- Unshakeable Resilience: You hear 'no' as 'not yet.' Rejection doesn't faze you; it motivates you to try a different approach.
- Deeply Curious: You have a genuine desire to learn about technology, our customers' industries, and the art of sales.
- Highly Organized: You can juggle multiple priorities, manage your time effectively, and operate with autonomy in a remote environment.
- Coachability is Key: You have a growth mindset, actively seek feedback, and are committed to continuous improvement.
- A Competitive Fire: You are driven by goals, metrics, and the desire to be a top performer on the team.
Preferred Background:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent life/work experience that demonstrates grit and determination.
- A passion for technology, particularly AI, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tech solutions. You’re comfortable in the world of AI and eager to use technology to drive improvements and innovate.
- 1-2 years of experience in a dynamic, customer-facing role. Think high-end hospitality, premium retail, customer success, or recruiting—anywhere you've had to engage people and drive outcomes.
- You are accustomed to working in an ambiguous environment with little structure. You have worked in a startup environment before, or the idea of a startup excites you. You may have experience at a large company, but you are used to talking to prospects who have never heard of your company.
Exposure to Sales (Nice to have):
- Previous experience as a Sales Development Representative (SDR) or Business Development Representative (BDR) in a B2B SaaS company is a major plus.
- Familiarity with sales engagement tools (like HubSpot, Salesforce, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, etc.) will help you hit the ground running.
Base salary for this role is $60-$80,000 with OTE potential at $80,000-$100,000. OTE is based on achieving 100% of quota; commissions are uncapped for over-performance.
