As ICON's Senior Director of Software Products, you will own the vision, strategy, and execution of all software systems at ICON—from the ICONOS suite that orchestrates construction operations, to the embedded control systems that power our robotic 3D printing fleet. You will lead a cross-functional organization of 20+ engineers, designers, and product managers, fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and rapid iteration in service of ICON's mission to make dignified housing accessible to everyone.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the technological foundation of an industry in transformation. You will work directly with executive leadership to define product strategy, drive architectural decisions that will scale with the company, and build the systems that enable ICON to deliver hundreds of homes while expanding into new markets and applications—including space-based construction.

This role is a full-time, on-site role based on our Austin, TX Campus and reports to the VP of Technology Products.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the multi-year software product strategy aligned with ICON's business objectives and technology vision
  • Partner with executive leadership to identify market opportunities, prioritize investments, and drive key product decisions
  • Build and communicate a compelling product vision that inspires teams and stakeholders across the organization
  • Establish metrics and accountability frameworks to measure product success, team health, and customer impact
  • Represent software capabilities and roadmap to customers, investors, partners, and the construction industry

Organization Building

  • Lead, and scale a diverse organization including software engineers, embedded engineers, UX designers, and product managers
  • Recruit and develop world-class talent, building teams capable of solving complex technical and design challenges
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, continuous learning, and high performance
  • Design effective organizational structures, processes, and communication rhythms as the team scales
  • Champion diversity, inclusion, and belonging across all levels of the software organization

Product & Technology Execution

  • Drive the development of an AI-integrated software platform, including AI-powered design tools, generative models, and automated compliance systems
  • Oversee the IconOS suite of products, ensuring seamless integration of planning, monitoring, and operational tools
  • Direct embedded software development for robotic control systems, including real-time controls, dynamic stabilization, and sensor fusion
  • Ensure the team implements a robust, scalable, and secure architecture across cloud infrastructure, APIs, microservices, and embedded systems
  • Work with the team to balance innovation with reliability, maintaining production systems while pushing the boundaries of what's possible
  • Prioritize engineering best practices, including CI/CD, testing frameworks, code quality, and documentation standards

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with hardware, robotics, operations, and manufacturing teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and business development to understand customer needs and market dynamics
  • Engage with regulatory and compliance teams to build systems that navigate complex approval processes
  • Coordinate with IT and security teams to ensure infrastructure reliability and data protection

Design & User Experience

  • Oversee user-centered design across all product development, ensuring tools are intuitive, powerful, and delightful
  • Oversee the evolution and maintenance of design systems that provide consistency across ICON's product portfolio
  • Drive user research initiatives to deeply understand customer workflows, pain points, and opportunities
  • Direct towards a balance of aesthetic excellence with functional requirements in both consumer-facing and industrial applications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15+ years of progressive software engineering and product development experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles managing multiple teams
  • Proven track record of building and scaling software organizations from 20+ to 50+ people
  • Proven Competency in modern software architecture, including cloud platforms (AWS), microservices, APIs, and distributed systems
  • Understanding of embedded systems, real-time control, and robotics software development
  • Experience shipping complex, production-grade software products that serve both internal and external customers
  • Demonstrated ability to define product vision and strategy in rapidly evolving markets or emerging industries
  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to influence and align stakeholders at all levels, from engineers to executives
  • Experience managing budgets, resource allocation, and vendor relationships

PREFFERED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining top engineering talent
  • Familiarity with some of the following software and tools:
