Bricklayer AI is seeking a Platform Engineering Leader to define, build, and scale the infrastructure that powers our agentic cybersecurity platform. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for cloud infrastructure, platform reliability, developer experience, security, compliance, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable designing platform architecture, writing infrastructure code, responding to production incidents, and mentoring engineers. This role will begin as approximately 60% hands-on engineering and 40% leadership, with responsibility for building the Platform Engineering function as the company grows. You will partner closely with Application Engineering, AI Engineering, Quality & Release Engineering, Security, Product Management, and Customer Experience teams to ensure Bricklayer remains secure, scalable, reliable, and efficient as we expand our customer base.

The Position
Bricklayer AI is seeking a Platform Engineering Leader to define, build, and scale the infrastructure that powers our agentic cybersecurity platform.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for cloud infrastructure, platform reliability, developer experience, security, compliance, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable designing platform architecture, writing infrastructure code, responding to production incidents, and mentoring engineers.

You will partner closely with Application Engineering, AI Engineering, Quality & Release Engineering, Security, Product Management, and Customer Experience teams to ensure Bricklayer remains secure, scalable, reliable, and efficient as we expand our customer base.
Responsibilities
Platform Strategy & Architecture
- Define and execute Bricklayer’s platform engineering strategy and roadmap
- Design and maintain scalable, secure, multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure
- Lead architecture decisions across cloud infrastructure, networking, identity management, observability, and reliability
- Build infrastructure capable of supporting high-throughput AI agent execution and enterprise-scale workloads
- Evaluate emerging technologies and drive adoption of modern engineering practices
Infrastructure & Cloud Operations
- Own AWS-based cloud infrastructure and supporting services
- Design, operate, and optimize Kubernetes environments supporting production workloads
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and modern automation frameworks
- Establish secure, repeatable, and scalable deployment patterns across environments
- Drive cloud performance, scalability, resilience, and availability initiatives
Developer Experience & Engineering Productivity
- Build and maintain CI/CD platforms and deployment tooling used across engineering teams
- Create self-service capabilities that improve engineering productivity
- Improve local development environments, deployment processes, and operational tooling
- Reduce operational friction across engineering teams
- Establish engineering standards and platform best practices
Reliability & Operational Excellence
- Establish Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices across the organization
- Implement monitoring, alerting, logging, tracing, and observability platforms
- Lead incident response processes, post-mortems, and operational reviews
- Define and measure reliability objectives, uptime goals, and service health metrics
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve platform stability and customer experience
Security & Compliance
- Partner with Security and Engineering teams to maintain enterprise-grade security controls
- Support SOC 2 Type II and future compliance initiatives
- Implement infrastructure security best practices including secrets management, access controls, vulnerability management, and audit logging
- Drive security automation across the platform
- Support customer security reviews, audits, and deployment discussions
AI Infrastructure
- Architect infrastructure supporting LLM deployment, model orchestration, vector databases, and agent execution frameworks
- Partner with AI Engineering to optimize performance, reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency of AI workloads
- Evaluate emerging AI infrastructure technologies and operational best practices
- Ensure AI infrastructure can support future growth and enterprise-scale deployments
Cost & Resource Optimization
- Establish FinOps practices and cloud cost governance
- Monitor and optimize infrastructure utilization and spend
- Ensure platform investments align with business growth and customer demand
- Drive efficiency initiatives across infrastructure and engineering operations
Leadership & Team Development
- Build and scale the Platform Engineering organization over time
- Mentor engineers and establish a culture of ownership, accountability, and operational excellence
- Recruit and develop high-performing platform engineers
- Foster collaboration across Engineering, Product, Security, and Customer Experience teams
- Serve as a technical leader and trusted advisor across the company
Qualifications
Required
- 8+ years of platform engineering, DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering experience
- 3+ years of technical leadership experience
- Strong hands-on experience building and operating production cloud infrastructure
- Expert-level AWS experience
- Strong Kubernetes and container orchestration experience
- Deep expertise with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
- Experience designing and operating multi-tenant SaaS platforms
- Strong experience with CI/CD platforms and modern deployment practices
- Experience implementing observability and monitoring platforms
- Strong understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements
- Experience supporting high-growth SaaS environments
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced startup environment
Preferred
- Experience supporting AI, machine learning, LLM, or agent-based platforms
- Experience with vector databases, model serving infrastructure, or agent orchestration frameworks
- Experience with Azure cloud environments
- Experience in cybersecurity or security operations platforms
- Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or AWS Security Specialty
- Experience with service mesh technologies and advanced networking concepts
- Contributions to open-source infrastructure projects
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

Salary
$170,000 - $200,000 per year
