CONTRACT BDR RESEARCHER JOB DESCRIPTION — PATH TO FULL BDR
Detroit Metropolitan Area, MI, USA
USD 20-25 / hour
Company
Birdstop, Inc. (“Birdstop”, “Company”) builds the next generation of American drones. Birdstop’s recently launched Fealty product line delivers the fastest rapid response drone product ever built - fully compliant with national security regulations and manufactured in-house in Detroit. Enabled by recent breakthroughs in FAA approvals and AI-driven autonomy, Birdstop drones can operate continuously in a fully automated mode without personnel onsite. These systems actively serve our nation’s critical infrastructure and public safety organizations with real-time aerial capabilities.
Role
This role owns top-of-funnel pipeline generation for Birdstop’s sales and marketing efforts. You will be responsible for researching and building targeted lists of prospective customers across Birdstop’s priority verticals, identifying the right decision-makers within those organizations, and entering and maintaining that data in our CRM. You will work closely with Birdstop’s sales and marketing team to structure and execute outbound campaigns that turn research into qualified opportunities.
Salesforce popularized a clean split for sales development: SDRs qualify inbound leads, BDRs prospect outbound leads. That convention held for years — but AI research tools, Apollo, Sales Navigator, automated sequencing, and CRM automation have blurred it. A lot of “BDR” roles today are really a mix of researcher, list-builder, campaign executor, CRM admin, and junior seller. This is what we’re looking for in the truest sense.
This is a contract role with an initial term of approximately two months and the potential to extend or recur based on need and performance, at approximately 20 hours per week — with strong potential to evolve into a permanent BDR position, including outbound calling and direct pipeline ownership, based on performance. The contractor will work from Birdstop’s Detroit headquarters.
Scope
The contractor will build and maintain targeted prospect lists across assigned verticals and load them into Pipedrive, with specific target segments and campaign priorities assigned by the Birdstop sales and marketing team on a rolling basis. The contractor is expected to manage their own research workflow, keep CRM records accurate and up to date, and support outbound campaigns as they are launched.
Candidate
We are looking for a resourceful, detail-oriented researcher who knows how to find companies and decision-makers quickly and keep a CRM clean while doing it. The ideal candidate is comfortable structuring and executing outbound campaigns, fluent with AI and search tools, and able to work through high volumes of accounts without sacrificing accuracy. This person is organized, self-directed, and delivers reliable work with minimal back-and-forth. Prior experience in sales development, lead generation, or outbound research is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and build large, targeted lists of prospective companies across Birdstop’s priority verticals
- Identify the right decision-makers within each target company and source accurate contact information.
- Enter, organize, and maintain prospect and account data in Pipedrive (CRM).
- Help structure and execute outbound campaigns in coordination with the sales and marketing team.
- Use AI and search tools to accelerate research, list-building, and decision-maker identification.
- Segment target accounts by vertical and prioritize them for outreach.
- Keep the CRM clean and up to date, ensuring records are deduplicated, complete, and accurately tagged.
- Track outreach activity and maintain accurate records of campaign progress.
- Report on list coverage, data quality, and campaign progress to the sales and marketing team.
- Coordinate with sales and marketing on campaign targeting, messaging inputs, and follow-up cadence.
- Marketing owns proto-persona, value proposition, and content strategy. This role has visibility into that work and feeds market and account data back to Marketing to inform ongoing refinement.
Basic Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in sales development, lead generation, or outbound research.
- Hands-on experience with Pipedrive is strongly preferred; comparable CRM fluency required at minimum.
- Strong data-mining skills, with the ability to efficiently track down companies and the right decision-makers.
- Comfortable using AI and search tools to accelerate research and list-building.
- Experience structuring and executing outbound campaigns.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to clean, accurate CRM data.
- Ability to work from Birdstop’s headquarters in Detroit, Michigan.
- Work authorization in the United States (no visa sponsorship available).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience selling or prospecting into government, public safety, critical infrastructure, or enterprise accounts.
- Familiarity with sales engagement and prospecting tools (e.g., Apollo, ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, or equivalent).
- Prior cold-calling or outbound phone prospecting experience a plus — this role may evolve into a full BDR position involving outbound calls.
What we offer
- High-trust, high-responsibility mission critical role.
- Strong career growth opportunities as Birdstop scales rapidly, including a path to a permanent BDR role.
- Beautiful work facility overlooking the Detroit river.
- Direct exposure to senior leadership and deal strategy.
- Pizza, once a month.
- Extremely hardworking and collegial teammates who care deeply about the mission.
- Opportunity to define the next generation of American manufacturing and aerospace.
Compensation
$20.00 - $25.00 / hour
