The Director of Data & Analytics Role:

The Director of Data & Analytics is a strategic leader responsible for enabling the growth of the business through data informed decision making. This role encompasses both strategic and tactical analytics work as well as team leadership. In the strategic portion of this role, you will collaborate with the executive leadership team to understand the goals and key performance indicators for multiple lines of business and define a data & analytics strategy in support of those goals. As a hands-on leader, you will also engage directly in the work of designing, building, and delivering the solutions that will support the company’s analytics needs.

This role directly reports to our CTO.

What are the day-to-day responsibilities of the Director of Data & Analytics role?

  • Set the Strategic Direction of Data & Analytics at 2U & LaundroLab
    • Work closely with the executive leadership team to understand key drivers of sustainable growth for the business
    • Proactively provide guidance on how data and analytics can help us better understand all aspects of our business: customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, quality, etc.
    • Define and evolve the technology landscape to support the data and analytics function at the business. This includes tool selection, data architecture design, and standards of practice
    • Cultivate a culture of data informed decision making across the company by ensuring that timely, relevant data is available and accessible
    • Source and/or develop training and education to enable self-service utilization of data and reporting tool by non-technical staff
    • Keep an eye to the future for how emerging technologies may impact our business and ensure we are positioned to leverage these tools and technologies at the right time
  • Lead the Execution of Analytics Projects
    • Lead design sessions with other teams and company leaders to understand their needs and how data & analytics can enable them
    • Develop a metric and data collection strategy across all of our major digital properties: mobile applications, web applications, marketing sites, etc.
    • Design and architect solutions encompassing data structures, data pipelines, algorithms, and reporting
    • Engage in the hands-on delivery of the designed solutions
    • Effectively communicate designs and expectations to other data & analytics team members and contractors enabling them to successfully deliver solutions
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Assume leadership and management of the existing data team
    • Manage vendor and contractor relationships as needed
    • Grow and develop the team to support the data & analytics needs of the business through periods of aggressive growth

Who is the ideal Director of Data & Analytics?

  • B2C Business Background - Both 2ULaundry and LaundroLab are predominantly B2C businesses so exposure to the data and analytics needs of these types of business will be helpful.
  • Ground-Up Experience - We are still very early in our data & analytics journey. Experience starting from a clean slate and building a platform, and knowing how to establish the right foundational pieces is essential.
  • Broad Data Lifecycle Exposure - Experience in all elements of the data lifecycle from database design to reporting.
  • Cloud (GCP) Data Skills - Our technology platforms, including data, are fully cloud based. Today we are leveraging Cloud SQL, Datastreams, BigQuery, and Metabase as core components of our data stack.
  • Excellent Communication & Documentation Skills - Strong communication skills to elicit requirements from and educate various stakeholders groups on the insights you and your team provide
  • Self-Directed - The ability to effectively identify gaps, prioritize work based on needs & impact, and make tradeoff decisions

What are the requirements for the Director of Data and Anlaytics role?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or Business Analytics)
  • Demonstrated success (typically 8-10+ years) working in a data/analytics-focused role, with at least 5 years in a leadership position overseeing analytics teams or initiatives.
  • Proven track record of hiring, growing, and managing cross-functional teams (data engineers, analysts, etc.)—ideally in a fast-paced or high-growth environment.
  • Experience defining and driving an organization’s data & analytics strategy, from vision to execution, in partnership with executive leadership.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, data lake architectures, and real-time data processing. Familiarity with modern tech stacks (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, BigQuery, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with BI/visualization platforms (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI), and the ability to evaluate/implement new analytics tools.
  • Proficiency in SQL
